Now it's time, Florida FAMMers: Help Marissa Alexander!

A hearing on Marissa Alexander’s motion for a new trial is scheduled for this Thursday, May 3rd, at 8:30 a.m. It will take place in Courtroom 6 at the Duval County Courthouse in Jacksonville.

Before the hearing, at 7:00 a.m., Ms. Alexander’s friends, family and supporters will rally at the courthouse for her release or retrial. We're asking FAMM supporters to attend the rally and the hearing. By showing your support for Marissa Alexander, you can take a stand against unreasonable and inflexible sentencing laws at a time when Florida desperately needs reform. The address of the Courthouse is 330 East Bay Street, Jacksonville, Florida.

Please come to the rally and the hearing! I’ll be there; together we can make a difference. If you have any questions about the event, or if you think you are going to attend, please email gnewburn@famm.org.
If you’re not familiar with Marissa’s case, you can read about it in the CNN article here, the Time Magazine article online here, or Julie Stewart’s discussion of the case over at the Huffington Post.
